  • Like all sulfonylureas, Glibenclamide acts as an insulin secretagogue. It lowers blood sugar by stimulating the release of insulin by pancreatic beta cells and by inducing increased activity of intracellular insulin receptors

 

Therapeutic Indications Of Glibil 5 Mg Tablets

  • It is used to lower blood sugar levels in patients with diabetes mellitus type 2 (non-insulin dependent). It is used when diet and exercising have failed to control your diabetes

 

Method Of Administration Of Glibil 5 Mg Tablets

  • This medicine is intended for adults only.
  • Take as indicated by your doctor.
  • Take with food, with the first meal of the day.
  • It is important to follow the diet and exercise plan set by your doctor.
  • The usual starting dose is 2.5 – 5 mg once daily.
  • Your doctor may gradually increase the dose up to 20 mg per day, as one or two doses daily.
  • Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
  • If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
  • If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
  • Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.

 

Undesirable Side Effects Of Glibil 5 Mg Tablets

  • Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may complain from:
  1. Decrease in blood cell count (platelets, red and white blood cells)
  2. Nausea
  3. Diarrhea
  4. Problems with your eyesight
  5. Allergic reactions
  6. Low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia)
  7. Liver problems
