- Perindopril belongs to Angiotensin-converting-enzyme inhibitors which are a class of medication used primarily for the treatment of high blood pressure and heart failure. They work by causing relaxation of blood vessels as well as a decrease in blood volume, which leads to lower blood pressure and decreased oxygen demand from the heart.
- In addition, Perindopril blocks the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II and prevents the degradation of vasodilator prostaglandins, thereby inhibiting systemic vasoconstriction, regulated by angiotensin II, and promoting systemic vasodilation.
- Amlodipine inhibits calcium ion influx across cell membranes, with a greater effect on vascular smooth muscle cells. This causes vasodilation and a reduction in peripheral vascular resistance, thus lowering blood pressure.
